Leigh has also been collaborating for 10 years on the 'Melbourne Rhythm Project' with Ramona Staffeld so brings unique and highly experienced perspectives to any dance and jazz collaboration! The class will cover all the basic elements of musicality: hearing form, better understanding the instruments' roles, the differences in beat pulse and groove between the different eras of Jazz, all linked back to ways of expanding your dance universe. Pre-requisite - Comfortable with swing dance basics, such as Lindy Hop. This class is included in the price of the entry fee. Leigh Barker is one of the best-known swing bassists on the European and American scenes, having toured with Gordon Webster, the Shirt Tail Stompers, Naomi and Her Handsome Gentleman, the Hot Sugar Band as well as his own group.
Canberra-born, Melbourne-trained, and Paris-based, Barker has always had his band out on the road, playing their unique mix of classic swing, blues, hot jazz, and original compositions.
